Tom Albrighton is the founder and director at ABC Copywriting based in Norwich in the United Kingdom.
He’s also the Co-Founder of Professional Copywriters’ Network – the UK’s largest membership organisation for commercial writers. He’s an extremely well respected and well-known copywriter, who I discovered when I was starting my own business back in 2006.
I particularly loved his home page slider copy – which you should definitely check out.

Just spent my lunch hour listening to Tom’s wisdom, thoroughly enjoyed it! It’s really refreshing to hear the copywriters I admire confessing to floundering at the beginning, and struggling with self doubt. And ‘Tom’s Top Tip’ for new copywriters was fab. It gave me the green light to indulge my love of swimming (during the day! Gasp!) without guilt. Fab podcast, thanks Bill, Kate and Tom 🙂
Great stuff Mel. Yes! Swim without guilt! It’s good to get permission to have an actual hobby :O

Thank you for delivering a lightning bolt moment in this episode! Your what-would-you-have-done-differently discussion with Tom made me realise I need to be clearer in how I describe myself. I don’t think feeling inadequate to describe yourself in a particular way is unique to copywriting but if hesitating means you aren’t articulating your real offer then you can only be confusing potential clients. As a result of this discussion I’ve already tweaked my LinkedIn profile and website to be less vague (I hope!).
PS – Between blogs, podcasts and exploring the new world of Periscope I feel at times like I’m stalking you guys (I’m the one with the shouting toddler in a raincoat who bailed on Belinda’s Periscope today), but discovering this world has been eye opening and exciting. I wish I’d thought to start an independent venture BEFORE kids came along! Thanks again.
Alison hello! Having a light bulb moment is FANTASTIC feedback. I’m sure Tom would be chuffed to hear that.
Periscope is fun isn’t it! I’m so glad you could tune in and I totally understand how demanding little people can be (eye roll). Thanks for tuning in. I really appreciate it. — Belinda
